FC Lausanne-Sport have parted company with manager Luka Elsner after five months at the helm as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS prepares to offload the Swiss club. Lausanne, who are partially owned by INEOS, announced on Tuesday that it had reached a mutual agreement with the 44-year-old.

A statement read: "After lengthy discussions about the current sporting situation, FC Lausanne-Sport and Luka Elsner have mutually agreed to end their collaboration."

Elsner was brought in on June 1 but departs with Lausanne rooted to the foot of the Swiss Super League. His exit arrives as INEOS have placed the club on the market.

The reported move to sell Lausanne-Sport follows INEOS' abrupt termination of its sponsorship deals with New Zealand's All Blacks rugby side and Tottenham last year.

Meanwhile, INEOS' most notable club, Manchester United, has been subject to mounting scrutiny over boss Michael Carrick amid a troubling sequence of results. United relieved some of the strain on Carrick by recovering from two goals behind to defeat Roma 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, halting a nine-match winless streak.

Considerable anger among supporters has been directed at Ratcliffe and the Glazer family. In the 21st minute, fans hurled green-and-gold balloons onto the pitch and voiced their opposition to the owners.

Roma had surged into a 2-0 lead within 17 minutes, but United responded during the second half. Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot before Matheus Cunha bagged twice to seal the turnaround.

Cunha was booked for removing his shirt while celebrating the decisive goal before the home supporters. A subsequent tackle on a Roma player resulted in a red card.

Reflecting after the match, Carrick said: "Disappointed with how it finished, but again just shows how much he cares and willing to do, and when he's in that frame of mind, he's in that mood and he plays like that, that's what we want from him.

"It was a challenging game. I think we started OK in the game, we knew it was going to be tough - they've only had one defeat all season. They're a very, very good team.

"So we talked about what we wanted to do in the game, we started OK and then the goal came from nowhere. We caused ourselves a few issues. In some ways, understandable with the run we've been on, a little bit anxious and a few nerves at times.

"This place [Old Trafford] does it. No matter what situation you're in, how tough it can seem, the supporters are desperate to get behind you and we gave them something to go on. We gave them other opportunities to score and it was close, and you're thinking, 'That's another chance gone by,' but we kept looking, kept pushing for answers and we found them in the end."
