Chelsea's Romeo Lavia voted Player of the Matchweek

Belgium midfielder tops our fan poll following his exceptional performance against Man Utd

Chelsea's Romeo Lavia has been crowned Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 9 after delivering a commanding midfield performance as the Blues returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

The Belgian dominated both on and off the ball, making 23 defensive contributions, including 14 ball recoveries. He also completed 16 line-breaking passes and won 78 per cent of his duels.

Lavia's defensive and creative qualities were both showcased in a brilliant moment when he registered an assist. He expertly broke up an attack by winning the ball from Man Utd's Bryan Mbeumo before quickly playing a pass into team-mate Morgan Rogers, who went on to score a stunning solo goal.

Lavia earned 35 per cent of the votes from Premier League fans and becomes the third Chelsea player to claim the award this season, following the successes of team-mates Cole Palmer (MW1) and Jordan Henderson (MW6).

The other nominees this week were Everton's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hull City striker Oli McBurnie, Arsenal's Declan Rice, Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Paul van Hecke and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
