Petr Yan’s team has gone all out to prepare him for UFC 333.
The UFC bantamweight champion will co-headline Saturday’s event in Abu Dhabi, completing his trilogy against Merab Dvalishvili.
Before Alexander Volkanovski defends his featherweight belt against Movsar Evloev in the main event, Yan will be challenged by Dvalishvili 10 months after dethroning the Georgian in their rematch.
After that bout, one of Yan’s coaches showed the detailed plan he had created in order to be ready for all scenarios on fight night. This time, he has gone even further…
Yan got revenge on Dvalishvili at UFC 323 last December, almost three years after suffering a convincing loss to the Georgian in a UFC Fight Night main event.
Following the unanimous decision win, the Russian’s coach, Kairat Nurmagambetov, revealed the detailed game plan he created for the fight.
It included a one-page document that laid out every scenario for ‘No Mercy’ depending on what happened.
According to the champ, his trainer has gone above and beyond for the trilogy on October 24.
“Last time it was a one-page plan. This time he prepared a five-page plan,” Yan said during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“It looks more like a football team practice than an MMA game plan. For every situation, there’s a detailed breakdown.
“Sometimes I tell him, ‘It’s not a football game,’ but he prefers really detailed preparation. This time it’s even more detailed than last time,” he added.
That might be bad news for Dvalishvili, who was unable to solve the puzzle that Yan presented inside the Octagon 10 months ago.
But ‘The Machine’ and his team will no doubt have been hard at work preparing their own game plan to ensure the UFC 323 result does not repeat itself.
There could be other issues for the challenger, however, after his coach’s recent comments. Ray Longo is worried about the optics in a close fight due to Dvalishvili’s unfixed broken nose, which he fears could bleed significantly.
