Two Midlands girls high school teams — Gray Collegiate tennis and North Central volleyball — will be playing for state championships this weekend.

Here’s what to know.

Gray Collegiate in the 5A tennis championship

Gray Collegiate will vie for the Class 5A tennis championship at the Cayce Tennis Center, while North Central will be after the Class A Division I volleyball championship at Dreher High School.

Gray advanced to the championship by defeating Wando, 4-3, on Tuesday and will face Mauldin in the championship. Mauldin defeated Chapin, 4-3, in a match that was decided in No. 2 doubles. It is Gray’s second title appearance. The War Eagles lost to AC Flora last year in the Class 4A championship.

This is Gray’s first season in Class 5A and the fourth year overall for the program.

North Central volleyball also playing for state title

North Central volleyball will play Buford for the state title. The Knights advanced to the championship by defeating Ninety-Six, 3-0.

It is North Central’s third championship appearance. The Knights are 1-1 in state championships, winning it all in 2024 to cap an undefeated season.
