Uganda’s national women’s handball team is targeting continental qualification at the IHF Women’s Trophy Zone V Championship, which started yesterday, November 4, in Kibaha, Tanzania, and runs until November 8.
The 16-player squad was flagged off on Monday by National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary Milton Chebet, who urged the players to embrace professionalism and use digital platforms to market themselves and attract international opportunities.
“For you athletes, make full use of this digital era. Publicise the sport you participate in on your Instagram, X and other social media platforms. That is what markets you as global brand ambassadors,” Chebet said.
The top two teams at the regional championship will automatically qualify for the continental Africa Cup. Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) president Fredrick Balenzi thanked the NCS and International Handball Federation (IHF) for supporting the team’s campaign.
Uganda’s squad comprises Brenda Adokorach, Robinah Katusiime Oliver, Gloria Amongi, Aisha Namajja, Claire Tabingwa, Mary Akech, Shakira Bako Agarile, Royce Namutosi, Barbra Nantume, Patience Damulira, Diana Nakamya, Hilda Abangit, Priscillah Aber, Joyce Patience Namutosi, Noelina Amongin and Yvonne Nakirya Tiane.
The team officials include Aziz Yakub, Jimmy Orotin Remie, Martha Maliza and Fredrick Balenzi.
