CARROLL – The Carroll Tigers opened postseason play with a home match against the Webster City Lynx on Tuesday night. Despite battling through multiple nail-biting sets, the Tigers emerged victorious by a score of 3-1.
Nail-biting is not an understatement for the way the match’s first three sets played out, as each of them were decided by three points or fewer. In the first set, Carroll jumped out to an early lead before Webster City battled back with a run of their own. Things remained close down the stretch, but the Tigers pulled through at the end of the frame to record a 25-23 win. Things were similar in set two, as the two teams battled back-and-forth from start to finish. It was the Tigers again, however, who came out on top in the end, winning 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead on the match.
Webster City broke the trend in the third set, taking control down the stretch to stay alive with a 25-23 win. Carroll was quick to stop their momentum, though, and clinched the match with a 25-17 set-four victory, ending Webster City’s season and punching a ticket to the semifinals.
Analia Ayala’s 17 kills were a match-high, many of which came courtesy of Payton Mohr, who led the match with 36 assists. Mohr also led the way with 23 digs, while Chloe Kock had a match-high five blocks. Brylee Mrla registered three ace serves.
The Tigers advance and will now go on the road to face off against a 25-13 North Polk team coming off a 3-0 win over Carlisle. The match will take place on Thursday at 7:00.
