European football serves up a weekend of major football battles, led by Barcelona’s meeting with Real Madrid, Manchester City’s bid to maintain their perfect league start and Liverpool’s clash with in-form Brighton.
City visit Aston Villa on Saturday at 12:30pm, looking to extend their winning league run after a 3–2 victory over Ipswich Town. They also head into the weekend on the back of a 5–1 Champions League win over AEK.
Arsenal host Everton at 3pm before Chelsea face Spurs at 5:30pm. Spurs are seeking to build on their first league win of the season, a 3–1 victory over Coventry that lifted them out of the relegation zone. The Premier League fixtures air live on SS Premier League (DStv Ch. 203, GOtv Ch. 65).
Sunday’s standout Premier League contest sees Liverpool host third-placed Brighton at 3pm. Brighton have won four consecutive league games and remain the only side to beat champions Arsenal this season, while fifth-placed Liverpool will be eager to close the gap on the teams above them.
Manchester United also host Bournemouth at 3pm, hoping to end their winless league run after drawing with Leeds last weekend and suffering a 4–1 Champions League defeat to Como. This fixture will air on SS Football (DStv Ch. 205, GOtv Ch. 61)
In Spain, Barcelona host Real Madrid in El Clásico on Sunday at 9pm live on SS La Liga (DStv Ch. 204, GOtv Ch. 62). Barcelona will look to bounce back after a 4–2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain ended their 11-match winning run across all competitions. They had previously beaten Real Betis 5–2 to record their ninth consecutive La Liga win. Real Madrid arrive after a 4–1 victory over Sevilla, setting up a crucial encounter between the Spanish giants.
