Arsenal make great offer to hijack record Liverpool deal

Arsenal have made an offer to sign Mexican youngster Gilberto Mora, with former Mexico international Claudio Suarez claiming the Gunners have presented the midfielder with an attractive project.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Monday 26 October 2026, the 18-year-old is attracting interest from several European clubs, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Mora, who plays for Mexican side Tijuana, is regarded as one of Mexico's most promising young talents. His performances have attracted growing attention, with Liverpool reportedly making a significant attempt to secure his signature ahead of the January transfer window.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool submitted an offer worth more than €40 million, potentially setting a new record for a Liga MX transfer.

Previous speculation also pointed to a €25 million release clause, although the details of his contractual situation remain unclear.

The teenager further fuelled speculation about a possible move to Anfield after appearing to respond positively to a Liverpool supporter who asked him to join the Premier League club.

However, Suarez has now suggested that Arsenal are also actively pursuing the youngster and have outlined a development plan that could involve sending him out on loan.

Speaking to Unanimo, via Sport Witness, Suarez said: "I know for a fact that he’s had offers. Arsenal showed interest, and so did Bayern Munich.

"Arsenal’s plan was to sign him and then loan him out, since he might not have been a starter for them right away. I happen to know that both Arsenal and Bayern presented him with a great project."

The former Mexico international also believes Mora has the potential to succeed in European football, although choosing the right club will be important for his development.

"The truth is that Gil Mora’s situation is unique - the kind that comes along once in a very long while. He’s extraordinary, both because of his age and the entire development path he’s been on since Juan Carlos Osorio gave him his [Tijuana] debut. If it were up to me, I’d let him go," Suarez added.

Mora's agent, Rafael Pimenta, has previously warned that persistent transfer speculation could place unnecessary pressure on the youngster while he continues developing at Tijuana.
