Chelsea’s True Feelings on Kendry Paez Emerge Ahead of The January Transfer Window

According to a report by Football London on Monday October 26, 2026, reports indicate that Chelsea is contemplating Kendry Paez's departure after two underwhelming loan stints, further dampening their hopes of turning him into a first-team star.

Along with fellow young sensation Estevao Willian, the Ecuadorian attacker arrived at Stamford Bridge with high expectations. But Paez hasn't played a senior game for Chelsea yet, and his future with the club under Xabi Alonso is looking less certain by the day.

There are now even more doubts about the 19-year-old's future at Chelsea after his summer return: he was demoted to the Under-21 squad and kept out of the senior squad.

The Under-21 team's management has given Chelsea some negative feedback about Paez's performance and growth, according to Bolavip. The Blues may, therefore, look into making a permanent transfer or another loan move in the January transfer window.

Regardless of these worries, Paez recently showed promise by assisting in a match against Liverpool's Under-21s. In addition, 57% of Sofascore's fans chose him as Man of the Match.

As an aside, word on the street is that the kid isn't happy either, and he may be ready to leave Chelsea come January's transfer window.

The uncertainty surrounding Paez's future is greatly exacerbated by his past experiences with loans. In 2025, he had a brief stint with Strasbourg on a temporary basis; he made 21 appearances and scored once before his contract was cut short.

There were few chances for him to make a name for himself in Ligue 1 during that time because he only started four of his fifteen appearances. His lifestyle, professionalism, and the support he received while in France were also the subject of concerns, according to reports from L'Équipe.

Even his subsequent loan to River Plate, a powerhouse in Argentina, was a bust. After only 14 appearances, Paez returned to Chelsea earlier than planned, despite initially expecting to spend two years there.

The youngster's future is shrouded in mystery as Argentine journalist Renzo Pantich revealed that River Plate was worried about his behavior off and on the field.

Both loan periods ended too soon, leaving Chelsea to decide the teenager's future. It is still within the realm of possibility to make another short-term transfer, perhaps to a different English club.

Nevertheless, Chelsea may opt to sell Paez and advance with other youthful offensive prospects if he fails to show steady improvement and meet the club's expectations.
