Iheanacho's scoring streak comes to an end

Kelechi Iheanacho’s remarkable goalscoring streak has finally ended after the Nigerian forward failed to find the net in Bursaspor’s 3-0 win over Bandirmaspor on Saturday. Despite missing the opportunity to extend his run, the striker remained part of another convincing team performance in the Turkish First League.

According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Iheanacho endured a challenging outing at the Atatürk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadyumu, where Bandirmaspor’s defenders worked hard to keep him quiet. Their defensive attention restricted his chances in front of goal and brought his impressive scoring sequence to a close.

The 29-year-old had also been a fitness doubt before the encounter after picking up a knock during Bursaspor’s 4-2 victory over Ankara Keçiörengücü. However, he recovered after two days of rest, returned to training and was cleared to feature against Bandirmaspor.

Although he failed to score on this occasion, Iheanacho has continued to deliver impressive numbers this season, with 16 goals and three assists to his name. His contributions have made him one of the division’s most effective attacking players.

His scoring streak reached a historic milestone on October 15, when he found the net against Muğlaspor to register a goal in 10 successive appearances. The achievement established a new record for the longest goalscoring run in Turkish football history. He subsequently extended the sequence with goals against Pendikspor on October 19 and Ankara Keçiörengücü six days later.

However, his blank against Bandirmaspor ended the remarkable run after 12 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, the striker’s performances in Turkey could strengthen his chances of returning to the Nigerian national team. The Super Eagles are preparing for next month’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania, with head coach Eric Chelle expected to name his squad within the next seven days.

Iheanacho has not featured in a competitive match for Nigeria since Chelle took charge. However, his impressive club form could put him in contention for a recall as the coach considers his options.

The forward will now be hoping to maintain his productivity for Bursaspor and use his performances to earn another opportunity with the Super Eagles.
