BRA 1-3 NGA: Nigeria's Flamingos Reach First-Ever U-17 Women's World Cup Final After Beating Brazil

According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Flamingos delivered an exceptional second-half performance to overcome their Brazilian opponents after both teams failed to score during the opening 45 minutes.

Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Queen Joseph converted a pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi to put the team ahead. The goal gave the Flamingos renewed confidence, and they continued applying pressure on Brazil in search of another breakthrough.

Their efforts produced another goal in the 71st minute. This time, Joseph played a crucial role in the build-up, providing an assist for Awawu Bashiru, who calmly finished to increase Nigeria's advantage to 2-0.

Bashiru demonstrated her attacking quality once again in the 80th minute, completing her brace after receiving a well-timed pass from Oluebube Umejiaku. Her second goal extended Nigeria's lead to three and placed the team in a comfortable position heading into the closing stages.

Brazil managed to score a consolation goal in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, who found the net following an assist from Yasmin Queiroz. However, the late response was insufficient to change the outcome as Nigeria held on to claim a memorable 3-1 victory.

The qualification represents the Flamingos' greatest achievement at the tournament, surpassing their previous record of reaching the semi-finals and finishing third in 2022. Their latest accomplishment further demonstrates the progress of Nigeria's youth women's football.

The Nigerian side will now prepare for Saturday's final against Japan, who secured qualification after defeating defending champions North Korea in the other semi-final encounter.

Nigeria's journey to the championship match has featured an impressive recovery. Despite beginning the competition with a 2-1 defeat against Poland, the team responded positively by defeating Puerto Rico and North Korea. They subsequently eliminated Mexico in the round of 16 before overcoming Venezuela in the quarter-finals.

With the final approaching, the Flamingos have an opportunity to win Nigeria's first FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title and create another historic moment for the country's football history.
