Como strengthened their push for a Champions League qualification place after recording a convincing 2-0 victory over Sassuolo in their Serie A encounter at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Saturday.
According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Cesc Fabregas’ side dominated much of the contest, creating several opportunities before finding the breakthrough in the second half.
Como started brightly, enjoying more possession and putting pressure on the visitors. However, Sassuolo remained disciplined defensively and managed to keep the hosts at bay during the opening period.
Douvikas came close to scoring in the first half, while Maxence Caqueret also tested the opposition goalkeeper as Como continued searching for an opener. Despite their attacking efforts, neither team managed to find the net before the break.
The hosts returned from half-time with greater determination and finally took the lead in the 49th minute. Caqueret supplied the assist for Douvikas, who finished from close range after Como found an opening in Sassuolo’s defence.
The goal boosted the home side’s confidence, and Fabregas’ players continued to attack in search of a second rather than allow their opponents an opportunity to recover.
Their pressure produced another goal in the 60th minute when Douvikas completed his brace. The forward converted a cross from Kaiki to extend Como’s advantage to 2-0 with 30 minutes remaining.
Sassuolo attempted to respond, but Como maintained their defensive organisation and restricted the visitors’ opportunities. The hosts also remained dangerous going forward as they comfortably protected their lead.
The result moves Como into fourth place in the Serie A standings with 17 points, strengthening their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Sassuolo, meanwhile, remain in 14th position with eight points after suffering another disappointing result.
