Arsenal Defender Suffers Another Injury Setback

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Sunday November 1, 2026, Arsenal defender Katie Reid has suffered another injury setback, with the youngster now expected to remain unavailable until after Christmas.

The 20-year-old picked up an ankle injury shortly after returning to team training following a lengthy absence caused by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Reid had been making encouraging progress in her recovery after spending approximately a year away from action. However, the latest setback has interrupted her comeback and delayed her anticipated return to competitive football.

Arsenal Women manager Renée Slegers confirmed the development during her pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Aston Villa. She revealed that the defender had resumed training with the squad before sustaining the ankle problem.

Slegers explained that Reid would not be expected to return before Christmas. She also expressed her disappointment over the situation, describing the injury as an unfortunate setback for the young defender.

There was more encouraging news regarding other members of the Arsenal squad. Kim Little returned to action during their Champions League fixture, while Frida Maanum could also be available for the upcoming match.

Goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar is another player making progress towards a return. However, Slegers suggested that the Aston Villa encounter might come too early for her.

Meanwhile, Chloe Kelly remains unavailable as she continues recovering from a hamstring problem that has troubled her since late September. The manager confirmed that the forward recently attended a specialist appointment but could not provide a definite return date.

Kelly's recovery will continue to be monitored daily as Arsenal assess her symptoms and progress.

For Reid, the latest development is particularly frustrating because she had finally returned to training after a lengthy rehabilitation period. Arsenal will now carefully manage her recovery before considering another return to full training.

Further assessments will help determine the next steps in her rehabilitation, with Christmas representing the earliest expected timeframe for her comeback.
