According to a report by BBC Sport on October 31, 2026, Manchester City remain top of the Premier League table despite suffering a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Brighton, while Arsenal have an opportunity to move above them when they face Liverpool on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola's side have collected 21 points from their opening nine matches, having recorded seven victories and two defeats. However, their advantage at the top is under serious threat, with Arsenal sitting second on the same number of points despite having played one game fewer. The Gunners also have a better opportunity to take control of the title race when they visit Liverpool at Anfield.
Brighton occupy third position with 19 points following their impressive victory at the Etihad Stadium. Chelsea are fourth on 16 points after securing a 2-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool remain fifth with 15 points from eight matches, while Brentford have climbed to sixth with 14 points after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0. Bournemouth are seventh on 12 points, level with Tottenham and Aston Villa, who occupy eighth and ninth positions respectively.
Further down the standings, Hull City complete the top 10 with 11 points.
Meanwhile, Manchester United's disappointing campaign continues as they sit 17th with just seven points from nine matches. Crystal Palace occupy 18th position, while Nottingham Forest and Sunderland complete the relegation zone with six and five points respectively.
Elsewhere, Coventry City have moved up to 16th after beating Sunderland 3-1.
With Arsenal still having a game in hand, the battle for the Premier League's top position could change significantly following Sunday's meeting with Liverpool.
