Jordan Henderson And Romeo Lavia Say Chelsea Star is ‘World Class’ Despite Man United Display

Moises Caicedo has received strong backing from Chelsea teammates Jordan Henderson and Romeo Lavia, with both midfielders describing him as a world-class talent despite his relatively subdued display against Manchester United.

According to a report by Football London on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Ecuadorian midfielder remains highly regarded within the Chelsea dressing room following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The result ended Chelsea’s disappointing run of consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, with several players producing impressive performances to help Xabi Alonso’s side return to winning ways.

Henderson was unavailable for the encounter because of illness, prompting Alonso to bring Lavia into the starting lineup. The Belgian had not started a match for Chelsea since before the international break but delivered an excellent performance alongside Caicedo.

Although Caicedo has developed an effective midfield partnership with Henderson, Lavia arguably attracted more attention with his influential display against Michael Carrick’s struggling United side.

Rogers, Estevao, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill and goalkeeper Mike Penders also impressed, while Caicedo quietly went about his duties without receiving the same level of recognition.

Before the match, Henderson had used Chelsea’s matchday programme to highlight the Ecuadorian’s exceptional qualities and explain why their midfield partnership was important.

“He’s a world-class midfielder, probably one of the best in the world in his position,” Henderson said.

The experienced England international also stressed the importance of establishing a good understanding with Caicedo, describing him as an outstanding player who makes his midfield partner’s job much easier.

Lavia expressed similar admiration after the final whistle, praising both Caicedo’s ability and the relationship they are developing on the pitch.

“Moi is a world-class player, and I’m very happy to be playing alongside him,” the Belgian midfielder said.

Nevertheless, Caicedo’s performance against United was not among his most impressive outings for Chelsea. Lavia was particularly influential, making important interceptions, completing accurate passes and helping the hosts maintain control of the midfield.

He also played a key role in Rogers’ opening goal by winning possession before setting up the attacking midfielder, highlighting his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Caicedo covered approximately 9.5 kilometres during the match, placing him joint-seventh among Chelsea players for distance covered. Having also featured against Liverpool earlier in the week, fatigue may have contributed to his less influential display.

He participated in 10 duels, winning six and losing four, while recording four defensive contributions. Lavia, meanwhile, registered an impressive 23 defensive contributions, significantly outperforming his midfield partner in that area.

Despite this, Caicedo remained reliable in possession, completing 95 per cent of his passes and helping Chelsea maintain control of the ball.

His performance earned him a respectable FotMob rating of 7.2, although he ranked ninth among Chelsea’s starting players.

While Lavia’s outstanding contribution understandably attracted much of the attention, Caicedo’s quieter outing does not diminish his importance to Chelsea. The praise from Henderson and Lavia also underlines the level of respect he commands among his teammates.
