According to a report by Madrid Universal on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Jose Mourinho is expected to make several significant changes to Real Madrid’s starting lineup when they face AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese manager reportedly intends to rest some regular starters as Los Blancos aim to extend their impressive winning streak to seven consecutive matches.
Real Madrid travel to Greece following six successive victories. However, Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni have already been left out of the travelling squad as Mourinho manages his players’ workload ahead of the weekend.
According to COPE, the manager is considering a defensive reshuffle involving Alvaro Carreras, Antonio Rudiger and Denzel Dumfries. Rudiger is expected to partner Dean Huijsen at centre-back, allowing Konate to receive some rest.
There could also be changes in midfield, with Federico Valverde expected to return alongside Eduardo Camavinga. The French midfielder has impressed whenever given opportunities recently and will be eager to maintain his good performances. Bernardo Silva, who has been influential in recent weeks, is reportedly likely to be rested.
Brahim Diaz is also expected to receive a rare starting opportunity on the right side of the attack. The Moroccan offers creativity and playmaking qualities similar to those of Guler. Vinicius Junior is likely to occupy the opposite flank after missing Real Madrid’s recent domestic matches through suspension.
His return could allow Yan Diomande to rest after receiving regular playing time. Mourinho will therefore have an opportunity to distribute minutes among his attacking options.
However, the biggest question concerns the striker position. Mourinho could finally decide to rest Kylian Mbappe and give Carlos Espi an opportunity to lead the attack. The young forward has been waiting for his chance to start for the senior team.
Despite the expected changes, Real Madrid will travel to Greece confident of securing another victory.
