According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday November 2, 2026, Alejandro Balde could be heading towards the Barcelona exit door as the 23-year-old defender struggles to secure regular playing opportunities under manager Hansi Flick this season.
The Spanish left-back has found himself struggling for minutes, managing just over 100 minutes across four appearances. His limited involvement has increased speculation surrounding a possible January departure.
According to reports from Italy, AS Roma have emerged as potential suitors for the Barcelona academy graduate ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly interested in strengthening his defensive options and considers Balde a suitable addition to his squad.
The Serie A club are already examining the possibility of securing his services through a temporary agreement until the end of the season, including an option to purchase him permanently.
However, Barcelona would prefer a permanent transfer if Balde eventually leaves during January. The Catalan giants reportedly value the defender at approximately €40 million.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with the Spanish international, meaning Roma could face competition if they decide to pursue negotiations.
Although Barcelona could consider a loan arrangement, their preference would be for any agreement to include a compulsory purchase clause rather than an optional one.
Balde's substantial wages could also create difficulties for Roma, potentially complicating their efforts to reach an agreement with Barcelona.
Another possibility involves Barcelona using the defender as part of a potential exchange deal to sign Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso.
For now, Balde's future remains uncertain, with the defender continuing to work towards earning more opportunities, particularly while Barcelona deal with several defensive injuries.
Speaking ahead of the Aston Villa Champions League encounter, Flick acknowledged the difficulties affecting his confidence and praised his attitude in training.
The German manager explained: “When you don’t play often, you lack confidence. I see him training well, but we have to decide what’s best for the team.”
Flick also recognised Joao Cancelo's impressive performances but insisted he respects Balde and intends to help him recover his confidence, describing him as a hardworking young player.
