Chelsea have two reasons to be excited after Strasbourg’s 5-1 demolition as loanee and target shine

Chelsea have received two encouraging updates following Strasbourg's impressive 5-1 win over Auxerre, with loanee Dario Essugo and reported transfer target Gessime Yassine both delivering outstanding performances.

According to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, Essugo gave Strasbourg the lead in the 41st minute, while Yassine produced an excellent attacking display that could further increase Chelsea's interest in securing his services.

The Blues have several reasons to keep a close eye on Strasbourg, with Filip Jorgensen, Essugo and Genesis Antwi currently developing their careers at the French club on loan.

Former Chelsea academy players Deivid Washington and Omari Kellyman also made permanent moves to Strasbourg during the summer transfer window.

However, Sunday's convincing victory over Auxerre offered particular encouragement to Chelsea, both in terms of Essugo's development and their reported pursuit of Yassine.

Essugo opened the scoring with an effort from the edge of the penalty area before going on to deliver a strong performance in midfield.

The 21-year-old also demonstrated his defensive qualities, recording five tackles and one interception during the match.

The midfielder has now contributed two goals and one assist in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season, having played a total of 381 minutes.

Yassine, meanwhile, was arguably the most impressive player on the pitch against Auxerre. The Moroccan winger provided the assist for Martial Godo's goal before winning a penalty after an excellent individual run.

He went on to score twice, first with a left-footed finish inside the penalty area before completing his brace with a header from close range.

The 20-year-old also contributed to Auxerre's disciplinary difficulties. Midfielder Lamfia Dioubate was shown a red card for a violent challenge after Yassine had beaten him with a nutmeg.

Yassine's impressive campaign has now seen him register four goals and three assists in nine Ligue 1 appearances, giving him seven goal contributions overall.

Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the youngster as they consider the possibility of making a move for him next summer.

Although the Premier League club already have several left-footed attacking options, including Estevao Willian, Pedro Neto, Geovany Quenda and Cole Palmer, Yassine's recent performances could make him an appealing target.

His continued progress, alongside Essugo's development in France, represents another positive sign for Chelsea as they continue monitoring the players at Strasbourg.
