Barcelona starlet Brian Farinas opens up on 'dream' debut after Hansi Flick's tactical surprise

According to a report by GOAL on Monday November 2, 2026, Barcelona youngster Brian Farinas has described his first-team debut as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream after featuring in the club's impressive 6-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves.

The 20-year-old La Masia graduate was handed an unexpected opportunity by manager Hansi Flick, who included him in the starting line-up amid Barcelona's ongoing defensive injury problems.

Despite his natural position being in midfield, Farinas was deployed at right-back and completed the entire 90 minutes as the Catalan giants returned to winning ways at Camp Nou.

Barcelona had entered the encounter looking to respond after suffering consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Flick was forced to make several changes to his defence, with the German manager also deploying Frenkie de Jong as a left-sided centre-back.

Speaking to Barcelona's official media after the match, Farinas expressed his happiness and pride at finally making his senior debut for the club he has supported and worked towards representing for several years.

"I'm very happy, very proud of all these years I've spent working. It's every child's dream. Playing in the First Division, with FC Barcelona, the club of my life," he said.

The youngster also addressed Flick's decision to use him in an unfamiliar defensive position, making it clear that he was willing to accept whatever responsibility the manager gave him.

"I play wherever he puts me," Farinas added.

Although he admitted that making his first appearance for Barcelona initially came with some nerves, the youngster explained that he gradually became comfortable as the match progressed.

"As you get into the game, I think I'm a player with quite a strong personality. I felt comfortable, to be honest," he explained.

Farinas also praised his Barcelona teammates for helping him settle into the first team, particularly those who were playing close to him on the pitch.

He specifically mentioned Pau Cubarsi, Rodri, Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal, revealing that their encouragement gave him the confidence to perform.

"They helped me a lot," he said.

The debut could prove to be an important moment in Farinas' development, especially with Barcelona continuing to deal with several defensive absences.

Flick is now preparing his team for their Champions League encounter against Aston Villa on Tuesday, with Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Xavi Espart reportedly unavailable.

Their absence could provide Farinas with another opportunity to feature in the first team, although the final decision will rest with the Barcelona manager.

For now, the youngster will be hoping to build on his impressive introduction to senior football after taking an important step towards establishing himself at the club of his dreams.
