'Very similar to Drogba' - Deeney reveals what he loves most about about Victor Osimhen

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday November 4, 2026, former Watford striker Troy Deeney has praised Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, comparing the Nigerian international to former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Deeney believes Osimhen possesses several qualities that made Drogba one of the most difficult strikers to defend against, particularly his physical strength, movement and ability to occupy opposition defenders.

The Nigerian striker has enjoyed an impressive spell at Galatasaray, scoring nine domestic goals before the club's Champions League encounter with Stuttgart.

Speaking ahead of the match, Deeney explained that what impresses him most about Osimhen is not simply his goalscoring ability but his outstanding work rate and willingness to put opposing defenders under constant pressure.

Asked what he loves most about the 27-year-old's game on CBS Sports Golazo, Deeney said: "People will look at the goals. I look at his work rate. The ability to work that whole backline on his own.

"He plays one upfront, very similar to Didier Drogba in the fact that he occupies the whole backline, but what he also gives is that he runs in behind.

"He gives you that threat to show, link-up play is really strong, also willing to run the channels on his own."

Deeney's comments highlight the different qualities Osimhen brings to Galatasaray beyond his ability to find the back of the net.

His physical presence, explosive movement and relentless pressing make him a difficult opponent for defenders, while his ability to run behind defensive lines gives his teammates another attacking option.

The comparison with Drogba is particularly interesting because the former Chelsea striker was renowned for his strength, intelligent movement and ability to lead the attacking line.

Osimhen has also previously revealed that Drogba was one of his biggest inspirations while growing up, making the comparison even more significant.

Although the Nigerian failed to score in Galatasaray's Champions League meeting with Stuttgart, his team secured a 2-0 victory, with Aleksey Batrakov scoring twice in the first half.
