According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday October 24, 2026, former Turkish referee Ahmet Çakar has questioned Victor Osimhen’s selection as Man of the Match following Galatasaray’s impressive 4-2 victory over Lille.
Osimhen was among the standout performers for the Turkish giants, scoring Galatasaray’s fourth goal to open his account against the French side. His contribution helped his team secure a convincing win away from home.
However, Çakar believes the Nigerian striker should not have received the individual award, insisting that three of his Galatasaray teammates had stronger claims to the honour.
Speaking on the BTV YouTube channel, Çakar named Barış Alper Yılmaz, Batrakov and Yunus Akgün as players who deserved consideration ahead of Osimhen.
“It's unfair that Osimhen was chosen as man of the match,” Çakar said. “Osimhen didn't play badly, but there are Barış Alper Yılmaz, Batrakov, and Yunus Akgün.”
Despite the criticism, Osimhen continues to enjoy a strong run of form for Galatasaray. The Nigeria international has registered seven goals and three assists in eight appearances across all competitions this season.
The debate over the award does little to diminish Osimhen’s impact, with the striker continuing to provide goals and attacking threat as Galatasaray push forward on multiple fronts.
For Çakar, though, the performance of Yılmaz, Batrakov and Akgün meant Osimhen was not the clear choice for the Man of the Match award against Lille.
