Son Of Super Eagles US ’94 Star Available For Nigeria After Club Debut

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Friday, October 23, 2026, the son of former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior international level after making his professional debut for Scottish giants Celtic.

The 18-year-old defender can still choose Nigeria despite having represented both the United States and England at youth level.

Sources close to the family indicate that Landon is open to the possibility of following in his father’s footsteps by representing the Super Eagles. However, he is not rushing to make a final decision about his international future.

Born in the United States and raised in England, Landon is currently spending the 2026/27 season on loan at Celtic from English Premier League side Chelsea.

The youngster joined the Scottish club during the summer transfer window in a move aimed at helping him gain valuable experience in senior football.

He made his professional debut in Celtic’s emphatic 7-1 victory over Hearts, coming on as a second-half substitute and featuring for the final 30 minutes of the match.

The appearance represents a significant step in his development as he begins to establish himself in senior football.

Like his father, Landon primarily plays as a left-back but is also capable of featuring in central defence and midfield, making him a versatile option across several positions.

Despite remaining eligible to represent Nigeria, the teenager is reportedly concentrating on developing his career at club level before making a definitive decision about his international allegiance.

As a result, an immediate commitment to the Super Eagles is not anticipated.

Landon joined Celtic on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign on September 2, 2026.

The Scottish club described him as a versatile player capable of operating in both defence and midfield. He was also a regular starter for Chelsea’s Under-21 team during the previous season.

On October 13, Celtic announced that Emenalo had completed his injury rehabilitation with Chelsea and joined the first-team group in Glasgow.

Manager Martin O’Neill has also praised the youngster’s pace, athleticism and composure when in possession of the ball.

His father, Michael Emenalo, represented Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where the Super Eagles progressed to the Round of 16.

After retiring from playing, the former defender built a career in football administration, including a spell as Chelsea’s technical director.
