UEFA Champions League Table After Atlético Madrid Drew 1-1

According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by VfB Stuttgart in their UEFA Champions League clash at the MHPArena.

Stuttgart started the match with confidence and looked dangerous whenever they moved forward, creating chances that forced Atlético goalkeeper Jan Oblak to stay alert. The home side enjoyed more possession during the opening stages, while Atlético tried to find space through their attacking players and put pressure on the Stuttgart defence.

The German side eventually took the lead in the 36th minute when Jamie Leweling found the back of the net with a left-footed effort that took a deflection off Atlético defender Marc Pubill before beating Oblak. The goal gave Stuttgart a deserved advantage after their positive start, although Atlético still had time to respond before the break.

Simeone made a change at half-time by bringing on Ademola Lookman for Jonathan David, and the decision quickly paid off as Atlético found an equaliser just two minutes into the second half. Lookman provided the assist for Julián Álvarez, who finished with his left foot in the 47th minute to bring the Spanish side back into the contest.

Atlético then suffered a major setback in the 64th minute when Morten Hjulmand was shown a straight red card for a serious foul on Angelo Stiller, leaving the visitors with 10 men for the closing stages. Stuttgart pushed forward in search of a winner, but Oblak and the Atlético defence held firm, while several late chances from the home side failed to find the target.

With the draw, Atlético Madrid moved to 15th position on the UEFA Champions League table, while VfB Stuttgart climbed to third place after earning a point at home.
