According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday October 23, 2026, Antonio Conte has denied reports suggesting he is negotiating with Manchester United, insisting that no advanced discussions are underway as speculation continues surrounding Michael Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
The 57-year-old Italian has emerged as a potential replacement for Carrick, whose position is reportedly under increasing pressure following Manchester United’s disappointing performances and recent Champions League defeat against Como.
Reports had claimed Conte was communicating directly with United’s hierarchy and had already presented financial demands and requests for significant control over the club’s football operations. However, the former Napoli manager has rejected those suggestions.
Taking to Instagram, Conte released an official statement addressing the rumours surrounding his managerial future and possible appointment at the Premier League club.
“My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage,” Conte explained, making it clear that no agreement is imminent.
Conte also dismissed claims that he had already outlined specific demands to interested clubs, including financial conditions and requests for extensive authority over sporting decisions.
“These reports are unfounded, as there is currently no concrete basis for such assessments,” the Italian manager stated, insisting that any genuine opportunity would require proper discussions between both parties.
Meanwhile, Carrick faces mounting pressure after Manchester United suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League, extending their winless run across all competitions to seven matches.
Although reports suggest United’s hierarchy still supports Carrick, another poor result against Bournemouth on Sunday could increase uncertainty surrounding his position and potentially accelerate discussions about a managerial change.
Besides Conte, Manchester United have reportedly considered Fabian Hurzeler, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe as possible alternatives should they decide to replace Carrick.
For now, Conte’s statement has made his position clear: reports of advanced negotiations with Manchester United remain unconfirmed, while his next managerial appointment will depend on finding the right opportunity.
