Nigerian Player Loses Consciousness After ‘Brutal Challenge’ and Is Rushed to Hospital

According to a report by Goal.com on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nigerian midfielder Kuadri Lyamid was rushed to hospital after losing consciousness following a serious head injury during Sabadell’s Spanish second-division match against Albacete.

The incident occurred in the 40th minute of the encounter when Lyamid was struck on the head by a powerful kick from Albacete midfielder Jose Corpas. The challenge left the Nigerian player motionless on the pitch, immediately raising concerns among teammates, opponents and match officials.

Although the challenge was described as unintentional, the seriousness of the incident forced the referee to stop the match while medical personnel rushed onto the pitch to attend to the injured midfielder. The referee subsequently showed Corpas a straight red card for the challenge, meaning Albacete had to continue the game with 10 players.

Medical personnel worked urgently to provide Lyamid with the necessary attention. The Nigerian midfielder eventually regained consciousness after receiving treatment on the pitch, bringing some relief to players and supporters who had witnessed the frightening incident.

However, because of the nature of the head injury, the decision was made to transport him to hospital by ambulance for further medical examinations. The additional checks were considered important to assess the extent of the injury and determine whether there were any complications that required further treatment.

The match eventually continued after being interrupted for several minutes. Despite the setback, Albacete maintained their advantage after establishing a two-goal lead against Sabadell.

Sabadell attempted to get back into the contest and managed to reduce the deficit through Inigo Aguilar, who scored in the 81st minute. The home side came under pressure towards the closing stages as the visitors searched for an equaliser, but Albacete’s goalkeeper made important saves to protect his team’s lead.

Following the encounter, Sabadell provided an update on Lyamid’s condition, confirming that the midfielder remained under medical observation. The club also disclosed that the initial medical examinations had produced positive results.

However, no further details were released about the full extent of his injury or how long he might be unavailable. His recovery and possible return to football will depend on the outcome of further medical assessments.
