According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Ryan Giggs, a legend at Manchester United, traveled to Italy at Osian Roberts' invitation and watched as his old club lost the Champions League match to Como 4-1.
United got off to a terrible start, conceding a goal in the first two minutes, in the league-phase encounter at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium. The 52-year-old former Wales manager was in attendance.
From the edge of the penalty area, Nico Paz curled a shot that found the bottom right corner, giving Como the lead. Giggs appeared visibly disappointed in the replay.
With goals from Anastasios Douvikas, Paz, and Jacobo Ramon, the home team Como went on to win convincingly. Even though United's Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation, the away team still lost badly.
Roberts, who is employed by Como as their head of development, extended an invitation for Giggs to come visit. They have maintained contact since their time working together as part of Roberts' coaching staff for the Welsh national team.
Giggs had earlier in the day watched Manchester United's Under-19 team play Como in the UEFA Youth League before heading to the senior team's Champions League match.
Losing 2-1 to their Italian opponents, the youthful Red Devils also tasted defeat. Scorers for United were Jack Fletcher—son of Darren Fletcher, a former United midfielder—and Como were represented by Matteo Papaccioli and Matteo Albini.
Following that, Fletcher was added to the list of substitutes for the senior squad's Champions League encounter against Como.
While Roberts was in Italy, he was overjoyed that Giggs had accepted his invitation and that they would be able to spend time together.
He went on to say that Giggs was going to meet up with Como manager Cesc Fabregas for coffee and watch the youth match.
As a result, Manchester United had a rough day on the road with both youth and senior teams, losing 2-1 for the under-19s and 4-1 in the Champions League.
