According to a report by London Evening Standard on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Manchester United suffered a significant injury setback during their Champions League clash against Roma after summer signing Carlos Baleba was forced to leave the pitch with a suspected hamstring injury.
The Red Devils hosted the Italian outfit at Old Trafford, hoping to bring their disappointing nine-game winless streak to an end. However, the encounter got off to a frustrating start for the home team.
Roma took advantage of United's defensive problems, with Matias Soule putting the visitors ahead before Donyell Malen scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 within the opening 18 minutes.
The early setback left Manchester United supporters unhappy, with sections of the home crowd expressing their frustration towards the club's hierarchy, particularly chief executive Omar Berrada and football director Jason Wilcox.
There was also a protest during the match as supporters threw tennis balls onto the playing surface, while balloons were released from the Stretford End to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the club's situation.
Despite the difficult circumstances, United manager Michael Carrick was handed another major concern in the second half when Baleba appeared to pick up an injury.
The midfielder had been pushing forward from his position in the middle of the pitch and was attempting to make an attacking contribution when the incident occurred.
However, he suddenly reached for his right hamstring before collapsing to the ground in visible discomfort. Medical personnel subsequently attended to him, but he was unable to continue playing.
Baleba was eventually substituted, with fellow summer arrival Youri Tielemans coming on to replace him.
The development is particularly disappointing for Manchester United, considering that Baleba only completed his move from Brighton towards the end of the summer transfer window.
His beginning at Old Trafford had already been affected by an ankle problem, which prevented him from immediately making an impact following his arrival.
Manchester United will now be hoping that the latest injury is not serious as they await further medical examinations to determine the extent of the damage and how long the midfielder could be sidelined.
