Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo following the Portuguese star's announcement that he is ending his international career.
According to a post shared by Cristiano Ronaldo on Instagram on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the 41-year-old confirmed his retirement from international football through an emotional video. His decision brings an end to a remarkable 23-year journey with Portugal.
The announcement attracted messages from footballers, clubs and supporters across the world. Vinicius was among those who reacted, leaving a short but meaningful comment under Ronaldo's post. The Brazilian wrote, “Forever number 1!!!!!!” to express his admiration for the legendary forward.
The two players share a connection through Real Madrid, where they were teammates during the 2018/19 season. Ronaldo had already established himself as a club legend before leaving for Juventus in 2018, while Vinicius was beginning his career at the Spanish club.
During his nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo produced remarkable performances and won several major trophies. His achievements have made him an influential figure for younger players, including the Brazilian forward.
Ronaldo finishes his international career with 234 appearances and 146 goals for Portugal, making him the leading goalscorer and most-capped male international footballer. He also helped his country win the 2016 European Championship and the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
However, his announcement does not signal the end of his professional playing career. Ronaldo is expected to continue representing Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, keeping his club football journey alive after saying goodbye to the Portugal national team.
