Manchester United Women have received a significant boost ahead of their highly anticipated derby against Manchester City, with striker Lea Schuller declared fit after suffering an injury scare in their recent victory over Liverpool.
According to a report by the Manchester Evening News on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Schuller raised concerns about her fitness after appearing to injure herself while celebrating her goal against Liverpool last weekend.
However, manager Eva Olid has now confirmed that the forward is available for selection, providing United with an important attacking option ahead of Sunday’s meeting with their local rivals.
United Women head into the contest in excellent form, having recorded six successive victories since Olid took charge. Their impressive run has boosted confidence within the squad, although the encounter against Manchester City is expected to provide a much tougher test.
Speaking about the team’s fitness situation ahead of the derby, Olid revealed that there had been no fresh injury concerns, with only players already dealing with longer-term problems remaining unavailable.
“No updates, justjust the same long-term injuries we had,” Olid told Manchester United’s media team and reporters.
Despite Schuller’s positive fitness update, United will still be without several important players for the encounter.
Celin Bizet Donnum, Jayde Riviere and Emma Watson are all expected to miss the match as they continue recovering from their respective injuries.
Fridolina Rolfo will also be unavailable after announcing her pregnancy in September, further reducing the options available to Olid.
Nevertheless, the return of Schuller is an encouraging development for United as they prepare for one of their most important fixtures of the campaign.
Their recent winning streak has demonstrated the progress made under Olid, but maintaining that impressive form against Manchester City will require another strong collective performance.
Beyond the rivalry and local bragging rights, Sunday’s encounter could also have significant implications for the Women’s Super League standings, with a victory potentially helping United reduce the gap on their Manchester neighbours.
With Schuller available for selection, Olid will be hoping her team can extend their winning run and secure another valuable result in the Manchester derby.
