The fourth round of league-phase matches produced several significant changes, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Sporting CP and Galatasaray also recording victories.
PSG remain the only team with a 100 per cent record in the competition after extending their winning run to four matches. The French champions moved to 12 points following their remarkable victory over Villarreal, scoring six goals without reply to establish a three-point advantage at the top.
Barcelona climbed to second position with nine points after defeating Aston Villa 3-0 at home. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, who scored twice, were responsible for the victory that ended Villa's unbeaten record in the competition.
Aston Villa dropped to third despite remaining on nine points, while Liverpool occupied fourth position ahead of their Wednesday encounter against Fenerbahce. Real Madrid, Sporting CP and Real Betis completed the top seven before Wednesday's fixtures.
Bayern Munich moved into eighth position with eight points after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-0 away from home. The German champions secured their third victory of the campaign through goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer.
Arsenal occupied ninth position with seven points from three matches ahead of their trip to Slavia Prague on Wednesday.
Manchester United also made progress after completing an impressive comeback against Roma. The visitors initially established a 2-0 advantage through Matias Soule and Donyell Malen, but Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit before Matheus Cunha scored twice to secure the victory.
The result lifted Michael Carrick's side to 17th position with six points from four matches, while Roma dropped to 19th with four points.
Elsewhere, Inter Milan defeated Feyenoord 3-0, Galatasaray overcame Stuttgart 2-0, Sporting CP beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 and LASK thrashed Slovan Bratislava 4-0. Bodo/Glimt and Lille played out a goalless draw.
The Champions League format allows the eight highest-ranked teams to qualify automatically for the round of 16, while clubs finishing between ninth and 24th must compete in knockout play-offs. Teams finishing between 25th and 36th will be eliminated from the competition.
