World Cup Final And Third Place Results After Nigeria Defeat Asian Giant

According to a report by Flashscore on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have secured the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title after overcoming Japan 2-1 in a thrilling final in Morocco. In the battle for third place, Korea DPR recorded an outstanding 6-0 win against Brazil to claim the bronze medal.

The final brought an exciting conclusion to the tournament, with Nigeria producing an outstanding performance to defeat Japan at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. The victory represents a major achievement for Nigerian women's football, as the Flamingos have become the first team from Africa to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria approached the encounter with confidence and determination, knowing that victory would deliver a historic championship. Despite facing a technically gifted Japanese side, the Nigerian players remained competitive and eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute.

Awawu Bashiru was responsible for giving Nigeria the lead after unleashing an effort from outside the box. Japan goalkeeper Kou Kadowaki could not keep the ball out, allowing the Flamingos to celebrate the opening goal of the final. Nigeria subsequently went into the dressing room with a narrow 1-0 advantage.

The second half began perfectly for the African representatives as they quickly increased their lead. Oluebube Umejiaku found the net in the 47th minute, just two minutes after the restart, to make it 2-0 and place Nigeria in a commanding position.

Japan attempted to respond and refused to give up despite the difficult situation. Their persistence eventually paid off in the 80th minute when Fuki Ito scored to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The goal gave Japan renewed hope of forcing the match into a different direction, but Nigeria refused to allow their opponents to complete a comeback. The Flamingos maintained their concentration during the remaining minutes and successfully protected their lead until the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Korea DPR produced one of the most convincing performances of the final day by thrashing Brazil 6-0 in the third-place match.

Kim Won-sim opened the scoring in the 12th minute, setting the pace for Korea DPR. Ri Ui-gyong then extended their advantage before the half-time break, giving Brazil a difficult task in the second period.

The Asian side continued to dominate after the restart, with Ri Ye-rim adding another goal. Ri Ui-gyong later scored again to register her second goal of the encounter, while Yu Jong-hyang and Ri Kyong-im also got their names on the scoresheet.

Brazil struggled to contain their opponents throughout the encounter and eventually suffered a heavy defeat. Korea DPR therefore finished third, while Brazil had to settle for fourth place.

Following the conclusion of the final and third-place playoff, Nigeria emerged as tournament champions, Japan finished second, Korea DPR claimed third position, and Brazil completed the top four.

The Flamingos' achievement is even more impressive because their journey did not begin smoothly. They suffered a 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening group match but responded with victories over Puerto Rico and Korea DPR to progress from the group stage.

They subsequently defeated Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil in the knockout rounds before completing their remarkable journey with a victory over Japan.

Nigeria's triumph has therefore become a historic moment for African football, as the Flamingos have delivered the continent's first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup championship.
