According to a report by Metro on Wednesday October 28, 2026, Bruno Fernandes has reportedly held clear-the-air talks with Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick following the club's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
According to reports, the meeting took place at the club's Carrington training ground earlier this week, with both men seeking to resolve tensions after Fernandes publicly questioned Carrick's tactics following the 4-1 defeat to Como in the UEFA Champions League.
Sky Sports News reported that the discussion was open and frank, with Carrick satisfied that the animosity between the pair had been resolved. However, it remains unclear whether the United captain apologised for his public criticism of the coaching staff.
Fernandes was left on the bench for the entire Bournemouth game after his comments about the team's approach against Como. Carrick described the decision to leave out his captain as a purely football-related choice.
The United boss said after the defeat: "Picking the team is always a difficult decision. We've got to make what we feel is the right one for the team to try to get the performance we want."
Despite the latest setback, Carrick is expected to remain in charge for Manchester United's Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
The club's board has reportedly decided to give the former England international more time to improve results, with United sitting 16th in the league table, just one point above the relegation zone, and winless in eight matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Fernandes is reportedly expected to return to the starting lineup for the encounter at Stamford Bridge, having been an unused substitute against Bournemouth.
The Portuguese midfielder has registered three goals and one assist in seven Premier League appearances this season, although all his league contributions came in August. He has since gone seven matches in all competitions without scoring or providing an assist.
