According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday October 28, 2026, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has criticised Manchester United's players following their disappointing performances this season, describing them as “dreadful” and “awful to watch”.
The former Nigerian international believes the Red Devils lack the collective quality needed to compete at the highest level after their 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel questioned the overall standard of United's squad and expressed his disappointment with their performances under head coach Michael Carrick.
“Collectively, these Manchester United players are not good enough,” Mikel said. “They were dreadful to watch, awful to watch. It was a disaster.”
The comments add to the growing criticism surrounding Manchester United as they continue to struggle for consistency this season.
Carrick has come under pressure following the defeat to Bournemouth, with questions being raised about the team's performances and his ability to turn their fortunes around.
However, Mikel directed his criticism at the players collectively rather than singling out any individual, suggesting that the problems at Old Trafford extend beyond one or two members of the squad.
Manchester United will now turn their attention to their next Premier League fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
