Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has named five players he would like the club to sign to improve their fortunes, according to a report by Football365 on November 6, 2026. Interestingly, his selection includes two Arsenal stars and two Real Madrid players. The former England international believes the five footballers possess the quality to transform the struggling Old Trafford side.
Scholes named Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes as his preferred defensive reinforcement. The Brazilian is known for his physical strength, aerial ability, aggressive defending and capacity to score from set pieces. His presence could provide the defensive steel that United have lacked.
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is another player on his list. The England international combines technical ability, physical strength, intelligent movement and goalscoring instincts. His ability to operate in different midfield positions and contribute in attack makes him one of the most complete midfielders in European football.
Scholes also selected Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise. The dribbling ability, creativity and accurate crossing of this Nigerian-rooted attacker have made him one of Europe's exciting attacking players. The Frenchman is particularly effective in one-on-one situations and can create goalscoring opportunities through his passing and movement.
Another Real Madrid player on the list is Kylian Mbappe. The French forward possesses exceptional pace, finishing ability and attacking intelligence. His versatility allows him to operate as a centre-forward or from the left wing. His ability to score and create chances could significantly improve United's attacking threat.
Meanwhile, Scholes initially selected Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as his fifth choice before replacing him with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice. Rice is renowned for his defensive awareness, ball-winning ability, passing range, stamina and leadership qualities.
Although Scholes' selections are dream signings rather than confirmed transfer targets, they highlight the level of quality he believes Manchester United need to challenge for major honours again.
