According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday November 5, 2026, Barcelona youngster Brian Farinas is finally beginning to enjoy the rewards of his patience after delivering impressive performances in his recent appearances under head coach Hansi Flick.
The 20-year-old had a difficult start to the 2026/27 season despite being included in Barcelona's first-team squad and inheriting the No. 4 shirt previously worn by Ronald Araujo.
Farinas spent the opening months waiting for an opportunity but struggled to get minutes, often finding himself among the first players left out when Flick had to reduce his squad. His continued presence in the senior team therefore raised questions about his role and future at the club.
However, the situation has changed following his impressive performances against Deportivo Alaves and Aston Villa. The youngster has now shown why Flick was determined to keep him at Barcelona despite the lack of opportunities earlier in the campaign.
Farinas was close to leaving the club during the summer transfer window, with Girona reportedly offering €1.5 million for 50 per cent of his rights. Barcelona were prepared to consider the proposal, but Flick intervened after being impressed by the player's versatility, intelligence and attitude during pre-season.
The German manager eventually decided that Farinas deserved to remain with the first team, although the youngster had to wait several weeks before receiving his breakthrough opportunity.
Interestingly, his chance came in an unfamiliar position. Farinas developed as a midfielder at La Masia, but Flick identified his potential as a right-back and handed him a starting role in that position against Alaves.
Barcelona went on to record a convincing 6-1 victory, with Farinas producing an impressive display. He completed 101 passes, recovered possession six times and showed a good understanding with Lamine Yamal on the right side of the pitch.
His performance was particularly encouraging because he looked comfortable despite playing in a position different from the one he had occupied during his development.
Farinas then followed up his impressive debut with another strong performance against Aston Villa in the Champions League. Despite facing an English side that had won its opening three matches in the competition, the Barcelona youngster showed confidence and composure on his European debut.
He positioned himself well defensively, handled pressure effectively and continued to combine with Yamal in the attacking areas. He also completed 11 passes in the final third, matching Pedri's tally and highlighting his contribution to Barcelona's attacking play.
The two performances have strengthened the argument that Flick made the right decision by keeping him at the club. His ability to operate in different positions could become particularly valuable as Barcelona navigate a demanding season.
Although his playing time could decrease when injured defenders return to action, Farinas has already demonstrated that he can provide useful cover across more than one position.
Barcelona have considerable depth in midfield and several defensive options, but a versatile youngster who is willing to adapt to the manager's demands gives Flick greater flexibility when selecting his team.
Farinas' attitude has also played an important role in his progress. Following his debut, he revealed that Flick had asked him whether he could play as a right-back. The youngster's response was that he was ready to play wherever the manager needed him.
