According to a report by Football Transfer on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly growing frustrated with Alejandro Garnacho’s situation at Aston Villa, raising doubts over a potential €50 million permanent transfer and leaving the Blues facing an uncertain future for the winger.
The Argentine joined Chelsea from Manchester United for €46.2 million in 2025 after the London club pursued his signature throughout the summer transfer window. However, his debut season failed to meet expectations.
Following two managerial changes at Stamford Bridge, Garnacho struggled to establish himself. New head coach Xabi Alonso reportedly considers the 22-year-old unsuitable for his tactical approach, prompting his temporary departure.
Unai Emery subsequently welcomed the opportunity to work with the winger, whom he had admired for some time. Aston Villa secured his services on loan with a conditional obligation to purchase.
Financial and regulatory complications influenced the agreement. Villa’s signing of Morgan Rogers meant that UEFA regulations could complicate an outright Garnacho transfer, potentially affecting the club’s financial returns.
However, Garnacho’s spell at Villa Park has not developed as expected. The Argentine has accumulated just 42 minutes across four appearances, casting serious doubt over his long-term future under Emery.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea believe Villa could be attempting to avoid making the loan permanent. The report claims the London club are “losing patience” with the situation.
Chelsea had reportedly anticipated receiving approximately €50 million from the agreement, making the uncertainty a significant financial concern. A failure to complete the transfer could leave them searching for another buyer next year.
The situation also presents difficulties for Garnacho, whose career has stalled since his departure from Manchester United. Former United manager Erik ten Hag recently discussed what the winger needs to rediscover his best form.
Speaking to The Athletic, Ten Hag said: “He needs a coach, a particular coach, who will give him trust, who will give him love. He needs the love, definitely.”
The Dutchman also praised Garnacho’s ability, describing him as “an amazing player” capable of maintaining high intensity throughout matches while producing dangerous attacking contributions.
Ten Hag highlighted his pace, dribbling, finishing and creativity, although he acknowledged that defensive concentration and decision-making sometimes require improvement.
He explained that Garnacho must remain disciplined during transitions and contribute defensively while continuing to express himself offensively.
Chelsea now face uncertainty over the winger’s future, while Villa’s reluctance to commit could complicate their January transfer plans. Garnacho must also prove his quality again if he hopes to revive his career.
