According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Liverpool could be without Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz for their Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting with Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night, while Florian Wirtz is expected to be available for selection.
Liverpool will welcome Chelsea with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, and manager Andoni Iraola will be hoping his side can get the job done despite the fitness concerns surrounding two important players, although the latest update suggests Wirtz has a better chance of featuring.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Iraola admitted that he was still waiting for the final training session before making a decision on the players, with Szoboszlai and Munoz facing a tougher race to be fit than Wirtz.
"I don’t think I can help you a lot. We still have to wait, we train later. We want to [use] this last day. He was quite fine, Florian – I’m quite optimistic that he will be available. And with Dom and Victor, I’m not so sure. I don’t want to say no, but I think it’s going to be more difficult than Florian, yes."
The Liverpool manager also revealed that he intends to make some changes to his starting line-up for the cup tie, but he is still determined to field a strong team as the Reds look to continue their campaign and move closer to winning silverware.
Chelsea will arrive at Anfield looking to bounce back from their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, although they will also be without striker Joao Pedro, who is facing several weeks out with a thigh injury.
Liverpool will therefore have an opportunity to take advantage of Chelsea's attacking setback, but Iraola knows his team must perform well if they want to progress to the next round.
For now, Szoboszlai and Munoz remain doubts, while Wirtz is expected to be available, with the final decision likely to depend on how the players respond during training ahead of Wednesday's meeting.
