Andoni Iraola provides Liverpool injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

According to a report by Metro on Tuesday October 27, 2026, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has revealed that Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz are unlikely to feature against Chelsea in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup encounter at Anfield.

The Reds will welcome Chelsea with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, but they could be without the two players as they continue to recover from their respective fitness issues.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Iraola admitted that Szoboszlai and Munoz face a difficult race to be available, although both are reportedly close to returning.

“I don’t want to say no, but I think it’s going to be more difficult than Florian, yes,” Iraola said when discussing the duo.

The Liverpool boss was more optimistic about Florian Wirtz, suggesting that the German midfielder should be available for the encounter.

“He was quite fine, Florian – I’m quite optimistic that he will be available,” he added.

Wirtz has shown signs of finding his rhythm in recent matches, scoring against Villarreal in the Champions League before contributing to Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on Sunday.

However, Liverpool remain without several players dealing with longer-term injury problems, including Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley.

Iraola also confirmed that he would make changes to his starting lineup because of Liverpool’s demanding fixture schedule, but stressed that the team remain determined to progress in the competition.

“There will definitely be changes. But we want to win the game, we want to be competitive,” he said.

Liverpool head into the contest after defeating Brighton 2-0, while Chelsea will be looking to respond following their 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham.

With Wirtz potentially available but Szoboszlai and Munoz doubtful, Liverpool will hope their squad depth can help them overcome Chelsea and secure a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
