Bayern Munich issue fresh update on Vincent Kompany’s health after training ground collapse

According to a report by Metro on Saturday October 24, 2026, Bayern Munich have provided a fresh update on Vincent Kompany’s health after the head coach collapsed at the club’s training ground and was taken to hospital.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that Kompany is in a stable condition but will remain in hospital for several more days as doctors continue their examinations.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 23, while Kompany was watching a training session involving Bayern’s reserve team. The club subsequently confirmed that the Belgian would receive medical attention and that his coaching staff would oversee training and match operations in his absence.

Speaking on Saturday, Eberl revealed that he had spoken with Kompany and his wife following the incident, describing the situation as a worrying moment for everyone at the club.

“The good news is he's stable. I spoke with him last night, with his wife too,” Eberl said.

He added that further medical results were needed to establish the cause of the collapse and determine how long the manager would need to recover.

Eberl stressed that Kompany would not be rushed back to work, insisting that the coach would receive all the time necessary to regain his health.

“He'll only come back when he's fit,” the sporting director explained, adding that the club would allow the medical process to determine the next steps.

The update comes amid reports that Kompany had been dealing with a viral infection in recent weeks. However, the precise cause of his collapse has not yet been established, and further examinations are required before a clearer picture of his condition emerges.

Meanwhile, Bayern are preparing to continue their campaign without their head coach on the touchline. The club considered requesting a postponement of their Bundesliga trip to Freiburg on Sunday, October 25, but ultimately decided to proceed with the fixture.

Eberl also acknowledged the emotional impact of the incident on Bayern’s reserve players, some of whom witnessed the collapse. He praised the support shown within the club and emphasised that the well-being of those affected remained important.

The sporting director expressed confidence in Kompany’s coaching staff, insisting that Bayern have the necessary personnel to manage the team during his absence.

For now, the club’s priority remains supporting the 40-year-old manager as he undergoes further medical checks. Although his condition has been described as stable, Bayern have made it clear that no return date will be set until the necessary examinations are complete.
