According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday November 3, 2026, while admitting that Barcelona's earlier interest was flattering, Villarreal forward Georges Mikautadze has stated that he is prepared to join a big European club.
After joining from Lyon, the Georgian international made waves with an impressive debut season in which he scored 16 goals in 44 games.
He was supposedly seen as an attacking option by Barcelona's sporting director Deco, who kept an eye on his development. The signing of the striker was not, however, endorsed by manager Hansi Flick.
The 26-year-old thinks he's got what it takes to advance in his profession. With his self-assurance, he knows he can excel at a higher level.
“I think I’m ready to move to a big club,” Mikautadze said. He added that he has the ability to make such a move and continues working to demonstrate his quality, although he may need more time.
The forward went on to say that the attention from Barcelona was significant since he had been a fan of the Catalan club since he was a little boy. Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Sergio Iniesta, and the legendary Messi, Suarez, and Neymar offensive trio were all players he followed closely. According to him, the reported interest served as additional motivation and evidence of his good performance.
During the summer, Barcelona showed interest in Deco as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez and Mikautadze as a potential backup. Because Flick lacked enthusiasm, Barcelona opted not to pursue the Villarreal attacker. So far, the club has shown no signs that it intends to rekindle its interest.
With five goals in fifteen appearances across all competitions, Mikautadze has had a tough start to the current campaign. He is frustrated because he has only started five La Liga matches. Instead of being benched or substituted early, the striker would prefer to start more often and cement his position as a regular starter.
