UCL Table After Manchester United Lost 4-1

According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Manchester United suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat against Como in the UEFA Champions League, dealing another setback to their campaign and weakening their position in the league-phase standings.

Manchester United entered their third league-phase fixture hoping to recover from their previous 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid. However, Michael Carrick's side delivered another poor performance at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, allowing the Italian team to secure a convincing victory.

Como took the lead in the second minute through Nico Paz, putting Manchester United under immediate pressure. The visitors struggled to respond effectively, and their situation worsened shortly after the break when Anastasios Douvikas scored to extend the hosts' advantage.

Paz found the net again in the 57th minute, completing his brace and further increasing Como's control of the match. Jacobo Ramon added the fourth goal in the 76th minute, sealing an impressive 4-1 victory for the home side. Manchester United managed to score once but could not prevent another defeat.

The result left Manchester United with three points from their opening three matches. They had started the competition with a convincing 4-0 victory over Sabah before suffering consecutive defeats against Atletico Madrid and Como. Their goal difference also dropped to minus two following the four goals conceded in Italy.

Como, meanwhile, moved to six points after recording two victories in three matches. The Italian side previously defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 before losing 3-2 to Feyenoord. Their latest triumph strengthened their position in the competition and improved their chances of reaching the knockout stages.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2, Liverpool secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Villarreal, while Manchester City claimed an impressive 5-1 win against AEK Athens.

Under the Champions League's 36-team league-phase format, the top eight clubs qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams finishing between ninth and 24th enter the knockout play-offs, while clubs ranked from 25th to 36th are eliminated.

Manchester United still have five matches remaining to improve their standing. However, Carrick's players must strengthen their defensive organisation and deliver more consistent performances if they hope to progress. Another disappointing result could make their qualification hopes increasingly difficult to achieve.
