Flamingos Crowned World Champions After Historic 2-1 Victory Over Japan In Morocco

According to a report by All Nigeria Soccer on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have achieved a historic milestone after defeating Japan 2-1 in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup to claim their first-ever world title in Morocco.

The victory has placed Nigeria at the top of youth women's football and made the country the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. It is a remarkable achievement for the young players, who have demonstrated resilience, determination and quality throughout the competition.

The final against Japan was a closely contested encounter, but Nigeria showed their intentions early and took advantage of important moments to secure the championship.

Awawu Bashiru opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 39th minute. The Nigerian midfielder attempted a long-range effort that Japan's goalkeeper, Kou Kadowaki, failed to hold, allowing the ball to find its way into the net.

The goal gave Nigeria a deserved 1-0 advantage going into the half-time break and provided the team with the confidence to continue pushing for another goal.

Just two minutes after the restart, Oluebube Umejiaku increased Nigeria's lead. The forward kept her composure in front of goal and finished brilliantly in the 47th minute to make it 2-0.

Japan, who were determined to fight for their second title in the competition, continued searching for a way back into the match. Their persistence eventually paid off in the 80th minute when Fuki Ito scored to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The goal brought fresh tension to the closing stages, as Japan attempted to find an equaliser. However, Nigeria refused to allow their advantage to disappear and remained focused until the referee brought the contest to an end.

The final whistle sparked celebrations among the Nigerian players, technical crew and supporters as the Flamingos officially became world champions.

Nigeria's journey to the trophy makes the achievement even more special. The team began the tournament with a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Poland, but refused to allow that result to destroy their ambitions.

They recovered with victories over Puerto Rico and Korea DPR before eliminating Mexico in the round of 16. A hard-fought win against Venezuela followed in the quarter-finals, while a convincing 3-1 triumph over Brazil secured their first-ever appearance in the final.

Their victory over Japan completed a remarkable sequence of six consecutive wins after the opening defeat.

Japan entered the final with previous experience of winning the competition, having lifted the trophy in 2014. However, the Flamingos produced a memorable performance to deny them another championship.

The achievement also represents a major step forward for Nigerian women's football. After finishing third in the 2022 edition, the Flamingos have now gone one step further by winning the competition for the first time.

Nigeria have conquered the world at the U-17 level, and their historic triumph in Morocco will remain a proud moment for the country and African football.
