According to a report from Daily Post Nigeria, on Sunday November 08, 2026, Vinícius Júnior is reportedly no longer guaranteed a place in Real Madrid’s starting lineup under manager José Mourinho.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Brazilian winger understands that he must compete for his position, but is not said to be unhappy with the change.
The reported decision comes after a difficult start to the season for Vinícius, who has scored just once for Madrid in all competitions.
His recent three-match suspension meant he was unavailable for selection, giving Yan Diomande the chance to step into the team. Diomande took advantage of the opportunity, producing goals and assists that have strengthened his claim for a regular role.
His performances have created a selection dilemma for Mourinho, who now has more than one option in the wide areas. While the coach is reportedly keen to help Vinícius rediscover the form that made him one of Madrid’s most influential players, he is not prepared to guarantee the forward a starting spot.
Vinícius will therefore need to make the most of his opportunities and convince Mourinho that he deserves to return to the first XI. The competition could provide Madrid with greater depth, while also placing added pressure on the Brazilian to improve his output.
