Andrey Santos highlights five players he thinks can help change Man Utd’s fortunes

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Saturday October 24, 2026, Andrey Santos has expressed confidence in the ability of five Manchester United players to help the club overcome its recent struggles and return to winning ways. The midfielder believes that collective responsibility, improved commitment and a strong relationship between the players and supporters will be necessary to achieve a turnaround.

Manchester United have experienced a disappointing beginning to their campaign under Michael Carrick, recording only two victories in their opening 11 matches across all competitions. Their situation became more difficult following Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, a result that exposed several weaknesses in the team's performance.

The defeat has increased the need for a positive response, with Manchester United preparing for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Bournemouth. Carrick will be expected to improve the team's organisation and restore confidence among his players as they attempt to put their disappointing results behind them.

Santos believes the squad has sufficient quality to improve its situation, pointing to Carlos, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Youri as players who could make significant contributions to the club's recovery.

Speaking on Premier League Productions' Preview Show, the Brazilian midfielder explained that the responsibility for changing Manchester United's fortunes rests with everyone at the club. He stressed that the coaching staff, footballers and supporters must maintain a united approach if the team is to overcome its current difficulties.

Santos also underlined the importance of belief and dedication, insisting that the players need to work hard consistently rather than allow their recent disappointments to affect their confidence. His comments suggest that he considers teamwork a major factor in determining whether Manchester United can rediscover their best form.

Fernandes remains a key figure because of his ability to create chances and influence matches through his leadership. Mainoo is another important player, although his injury has reduced the midfield options available to Carrick during a challenging period.

Mount, meanwhile, will be hoping to enjoy a more consistent run of appearances and demonstrate his value to the team after dealing with fitness problems since his arrival from Chelsea.

Santos is also looking to strengthen his position within the Manchester United midfield. Securing regular playing time has not always been straightforward for the Brazilian, but Mainoo's absence has created an opportunity for him to feature more frequently and prove what he can offer.

The midfielder's involvement against Como came during a difficult evening for the English club, which struggled to prevent its opponents from securing a convincing victory.

With Bournemouth next on the schedule, Manchester United must quickly address their shortcomings and produce a stronger performance. Santos' remarks reinforce the belief that individual talent alone will not be enough to solve the team's problems.

The Red Devils need greater consistency, improved coordination and a collective determination to deliver results. Whether the five players highlighted by Santos can help inspire that improvement will become clearer as Manchester United attempt to revive their season.
