According to a report by BBC SPORT on Tuesday November 3, 2026, Matheus Cunha produced a remarkable performance to inspire Manchester United to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over AS Roma after the Red Devils found themselves two goals behind.
The Brazilian forward was instrumental in turning the game around, scoring twice in the closing stages to complete an impressive fightback at Old Trafford.
Manchester United struggled during the opening half as Roma took control of the encounter. Matias Soule opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a brilliant finish after receiving an excellent pass from Rodrigo Mora. The visitors doubled their advantage six minutes later when Donyell Malen converted a penalty, leaving United with a difficult task heading into the break.
Cunha remained determined to help his team recover from the disappointing first-half performance. He continued to push forward and looked for opportunities to trouble Roma's defence after the restart.
United eventually reduced the deficit in the 58th minute when Bruno Fernandes converted a retaken penalty. However, Cunha was the player who completely changed the direction of the contest with his outstanding contribution in the final stages.
The Brazilian brought Manchester United level in the 83rd minute after meeting a precise cross from Fernandes inside the penalty area. He showed excellent positioning and composure to direct the ball into the bottom-right corner, giving the hosts renewed hope.
Just three minutes later, Cunha struck again to complete the comeback. This time, Shea Lacey supplied an excellent pass into the box, allowing the forward to produce a precise finish inside the right post for his second goal of the evening.
His two quick goals transformed a difficult night into a memorable victory for Manchester United. Although Cunha was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in stoppage time, his decisive contribution had already secured his place as the standout performer.
The Brazilian deservedly claimed the Man of the Match recognition after delivering the goals that inspired United's remarkable 3-2 victory.
