According to a report by The Punch on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Super Eagles flop Victor Boniface has been snubbed again by Bayer Leverkusen after the German club left him out of their squad for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against OFI Crete in Greece.
Leverkusen opted to include midfielder Jonas Hofmann in their European squad instead of the Nigerian forward following an injury to French attacker Martin Terrier.
Terrier suffered a serious muscular injury during Leverkusen’s 4-0 victory over Lech Poznan last Thursday and is expected to remain sidelined until December.
The injury allowed the club to make a change to their Europa League squad, but Boniface was overlooked once again.
The latest decision represents another setback for the 25-year-old, who has struggled to secure regular playing time since returning from his loan spell at Werder Bremen.
Boniface has made just one appearance for Leverkusen this season, featuring for five minutes in their opening-day 3-2 defeat to newly promoted SV Elversberg.
He provided an assist in that match but has not featured since new head coach Carles Martinez took charge.
The Nigerian striker also faces competition for a place in the attack, with Czech forward Patrik Schick ahead of him in the pecking order, while Cameroon international Christian Kofane is currently injured.
Boniface’s situation has also attracted attention following an incident during Leverkusen’s 4-3 victory over Mainz 05.
The forward reportedly left the stadium before the final whistle after becoming frustrated at not being introduced into the match.
Although the striker later admitted his mistake, the incident did little to improve his situation at the club.
Martinez subsequently addressed the matter, saying he had not noticed the incident during the match.
Boniface previously attracted interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in January 2025, but a reported €70m move collapsed at the final stage.
The former Union SG striker now faces the challenge of regaining his place in Leverkusen’s plans as he seeks more playing time and hopes to revive his career at the German club.
