According to a report by FootballTransfers, on Thursday October 22, 2026, Manchester United could be forced to strengthen their attack in January after reports suggested Benjamin Sesko may not return until 2027.
The Slovenia international has endured a difficult spell with injuries. A shin problem affected his pre-season, and he suffered another setback during United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.
According to The Sun, the latest issue may be separate from his earlier injury, but the club are reportedly concerned he could miss the rest of the year.
United manager Michael Carrick has already indicated that the club will assess its options during the January transfer window.
The need for a forward was also apparent before Sesko’s setback: Joshua Zirkzee wanted to leave in the summer, but United did not let him go because they had not secured a replacement.
One reported target is Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Beljo. The Croatia international has been prolific since returning to his hometown club, scoring 53 goals in 63 appearances. He has continued that form this season, with 15 goals in 15 matches.
United would face competition for Beljo, with Newcastle and AC Milan also reportedly interested. Dinamo are believed to have rejected a €20 million bid from Real Betis in the summer, having valued the striker at €25 million. His price could now exceed €30 million.
SC Freiburg forward Igor Matanović has also been linked with United, though his club may be reluctant to sell mid-season. With Sesko’s availability uncertain, United must decide whether to pursue a January signing or rely on their existing options.
