Manchester United's next five fixtures after Chelsea loss as Michael Carrick faces nightmare run

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Saturday October 31, 2026, Manchester United face a difficult run of fixtures in November following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Michael Carrick under increasing pressure to turn the club's fortunes around.

United have now gone nine games without a victory in all competitions, recording just two wins in their last 13 matches. The latest defeat has raised further questions about Carrick's future, despite the club's decision to give him another opportunity following their disappointing results against Como and Bournemouth.

Although Manchester United produced an encouraging first-half performance against Chelsea, they failed to take advantage of their opportunities. Amad and Bruno Fernandes missed important chances, while Matheus Cunha also saw a goal disallowed.

Chelsea eventually punished United in the second half, with Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer scoring to secure all three points.

Speaking after the defeat, Carrick insisted that his immediate priority was preparing his players for their next fixture.

"We've got to move forward. We have to take the things that worked for us today and use that moving forward. I'm just looking forward to getting the boys ready for midweek now," he said.

United's next five fixtures could prove crucial for Carrick as he attempts to end the club's poor run of results.

1. Manchester United vs Roma – Champions League

Manchester United will welcome Italian side Roma to Old Trafford on Tuesday in their next Champions League fixture.

Roma, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, have enjoyed an impressive campaign, losing just once this season. Their only defeat came against Real Madrid in European competition.

Donyell Malen has been one of their standout performers, scoring 10 goals in all competitions this season.

Carrick will need his players to deliver a much-improved performance if United are to secure a positive result and end their winless run.

2. Aston Villa vs Manchester United – Premier League

United's next Premier League assignment will be a difficult trip to face Aston Villa before the November international break.

Unai Emery's side have won seven of their last nine matches and have recorded impressive victories against Manchester City and Newcastle United in recent weeks.

Although Villa suffered a Carabao Cup defeat against Bournemouth, Emery made several changes to his starting lineup for that encounter.

Villa will be looking to take advantage of Manchester United's current struggles when the two sides meet.

3. Liverpool vs Manchester United – Premier League

Following the international break, Manchester United will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Liverpool have won their last five matches and will enter the encounter with considerable confidence.

The fixture represents another major challenge for Carrick, particularly given United's current position and their difficulties against teams enjoying good form.

4. Sporting CP vs Manchester United – Champions League

Manchester United will remain on the road after their trip to Liverpool as they travel to Portugal to face Sporting CP in the Champions League.

Sporting have enjoyed a strong campaign domestically, although their performances in European competition have been less convincing.

5. Manchester United vs Brentford – Premier League

United's fifth upcoming fixture in the report will be against Brentford at Old Trafford.

Brentford, managed by Keith Andrews, returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest after going four matches without a win.
