Tottenham End Stamford Bridge Hoodoo With 2-0 Victory Over 10-Man Chelsea

According to a report by BBC Sports on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Tottenham Hotspur secured a memorable 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, ending their long wait for a Premier League win at the ground as Mike Penders' own goal and a stunning solo effort from Mathys Tel sealed the points.

Roberto De Zerbi's side arrived in west London with a poor record against their London rivals, having managed just one victory in their previous 41 visits to Stamford Bridge. However, the visitors delivered an impressive performance to overcome Xabi Alonso's 10-man Chelsea side.

The decisive moment arrived in the 77th minute when Chelsea goalkeeper Penders punched the ball into his own net while attempting to deal with a corner from Mateus Fernandes. Chelsea's misery was compounded three minutes later when England midfielder Cole Palmer was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on Conor Gallagher.

Tel then secured Tottenham's victory in the 87th minute with a brilliant individual goal, racing forward from inside his own half before beating his opponent and drilling a low shot into the bottom corner. The result marked Tottenham's first league victory at Stamford Bridge since 2018.

Both teams entered the contest with notable absentees. Chelsea were without João Pedro, while Penders deputised in goal for Emiliano Martínez. Tottenham also had key players missing, but De Zerbi paired Sandro Tonali and Fernandes in midfield for the first time.

The visitors controlled much of the opening exchanges, although Chelsea created the first major opportunity when Fernandes lost possession near the corner flag. Palmer seized on the loose ball and fired towards goal, but Antonín Kinsky produced a save to keep Tottenham level.

Spurs gradually turned their possession into chances. James Maddison was denied by a strong challenge from Maxence Lacroix before Mohammed Kudus collected a pass from Tel but curled his effort wide. Tottenham came close to breaking the deadlock in the 29th minute when Maddison combined with Andrew Robertson, who exchanged passes with Tel down the left before finding Omar Marmoush.

Maddison was forced off four minutes into the second half, disrupting Tottenham's momentum. Chelsea attempted to take advantage, and Neto threatened again shortly after the hour mark, only for Kinsky to make another important save. As the rain continued to pour, both sides introduced substitutes in search of a breakthrough.

Tottenham had finally taken the lead at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea's hopes of recovering suffered another blow when Palmer received his second yellow card for catching Gallagher's ankle with a late challenge. With the hosts reduced to 10 men, Spurs pressed for a second goal to secure the result.

Tel delivered the decisive moment in the 87th minute, collecting the ball inside his own half and driving forward before getting past Lacroix and firing a superb low strike into the bottom corner. The goal sparked celebrations among Tottenham's players and coaching staff, confirming a landmark away victory for De Zerbi's side.
