MUN 3-2 ROM: Match Review And Updated UEFA Champions League Table

According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Manchester United produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat AS Roma 3-2 in their UEFA Champions League encounter at Old Trafford.

The victory provided a much-needed boost for manager Michael Carrick, whose position had come under increasing pressure following Manchester United's disappointing run of results.

However, the hosts endured another difficult opening as Roma took control of the contest and established a two-goal advantage before half-time.

Roma opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Rodrigo Mora delivered an incisive pass that split the Manchester United defence. Matías Soulé capitalised on the opportunity, getting through on goal before calmly beating goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The visitors doubled their advantage shortly afterwards when Ayden Heaven was penalised for handball inside the penalty area. Donyell Malen stepped forward to take the resulting spot-kick and confidently converted to make it 2-0.

Malen nearly extended Roma's lead before the interval, but Lammens produced an important save to deny his powerful effort. Soulé also came close to finding the net again, sending his attempt narrowly wide as United headed into the break to a chorus of boos from their supporters.

Manchester United returned for the second half with greater determination and quickly found a route back into the contest.

The hosts were awarded a penalty after Matheus Cunha was brought down by Gianluca Mancini. Bruno Fernandes initially saw his effort saved, but the referee ordered a retake after Bryan Cristante encroached into the penalty area before the rebound was cleared.

Fernandes made no mistake with his second attempt, reducing the deficit and giving United renewed belief.

The Red Devils continued to push for an equaliser, with Bryan Mbeumo coming agonisingly close when his effort struck both posts before bouncing away from danger.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 83rd minute when Cunha took advantage of a defensive mistake by Leonardo Balerdi to convert Fernandes' cross and bring United level at 2-2.

United completed their remarkable turnaround moments later. Shea Lacey provided the assist for Cunha, who unleashed a powerful effort that squeezed past the goalkeeper at the near post to put the hosts ahead.

The Brazilian's decisive contribution was followed by disappointment, however, as he received a second yellow card for a late challenge during stoppage time.

Despite finishing with 10 men, Manchester United held on to secure an important 3-2 victory and ease some of the pressure on Carrick ahead of their upcoming Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.
